Research: Information for Patients

We have had the opportunity to be involved in clinical studies that have had a positive effect on the standard of care for cardiology patients. In the mid-1990s, our site participated in one of the studies that helped to establish the use of a class of medications called beta blockers as a standard treatment for patients with congestive heart failure. Shortly thereafter, we were involved in a study on another class of medications (aldosterone antagonists) that have also been shown to be effective in the management of congestive heart failure. Our office has also participated in the development of new medications for the prevention of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation.

The knowledge gained through clinical research studies is necessary for the advancement of medical care. It is also one of the most common reasons that our patients participate. The safety of our clinical study participants always comes first. The majority of participants consider their study experience as positive and express interests in participating in other clinical studies.

We have participated in over 120 clinical trials with emphasis on the following:

  • Acute Coronary Syndromes
  • Angina
  • Cardiac Arrhythmias
  • Cholesterol and Lipid Abnormalities
  • Congestive Heart Failure
  • Coronary atherosclerosis/plaque regression
  • Hypertension
  • Peripheral Vascular Disease (PAD)
  • Stroke Prevention

We also have investigative experience with other areas, such as:

  • Cardiac Imaging
  • Diabetes
  • Erectile Dysfunction Drugs

We are currently enrolling patients in studies involving:

  • High Blood Pressure
  • New Stroke Prevention Medications
  • Devices for Treating Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)
  • Atrial Fibrillation

If you are interested in participating in any of our studies, please contact our research department at (503) 648-0731.
